Euro SUP: The French shone on the Vendée podiums

Le Vendée Gliss Event 2020, the first stage of the European stand up paddle circuit, took place from August 22 to 23 on the Plage des Oiseaux in Saint-Jean-des-Monts. And the French have imposed themselves on the podiums of Euro SUP.

Aentertainment for the general public, SUP, windsurfing, surfing, skateboarding and foiling… At the end of summer, the Vendée Gliss Event was a real festive bubble of gliding and good humor. Beyond the conviviality and the warm atmosphere of the event, the performances and the show were at the rendezvous of these two intense days in emotions. Because over the years, the Vendée Gliss has become one of the world references stand up paddle races.

Olivia Piana wins in long distance

To the French multiple world champion, this event was the first of the season. And what a beautiful opening! Olivia piana wins the long distance race. She has traveled the 23 kilometers that separate the Ile d'Yeu of Saint-Jean-des-Monts in just 2 hours and 3 short minutes, ahead of the Spanish Esperanza Barreras and the Italian Caterina Stenta. A great opportunity to celebrate with "5 kilos of oysters" !!

Noic Garioud and Titouan Puyo fly over the events

On the long distance run, the French left their mark. First place for Noic Garioud in 1 hour and 39 minutes, followed very closely by Titouan Puyo et Arutkin. For the organizers, this event will be remembered for a “dream downwind right in the direction of the wind”.

“The riders bumped and surfed for more than 20 kilometers! "

And if Titouan Puyo came second in the long distance, he managed to win in Technical Race, this time ahead of Noic Garioud. In foil, it's another Titouan, Titouan Galea which takes the first place on the podium. In women, the Technical Race is won by Fanny Tessier who broke the news with great modesty on Instagram.

A fifth edition full of surprises!

Races, demonstrations of wingfoil and helicopter hoisting SNSM, skiing village, ecological awareness… The program for these two days was already intense, yet the organizers decided to open a race to the general public. This is how it was organized the Race for the Ocean, a great novelty of the Vendée Gliss Event 2020. This 7-kilometer race, open to all, allowed amateurs to row alongside professionals. The talented Vendée skipper Benjamin Dutreux agreed to be the sponsor of the event and he even lent himself to the exercise by competing for the first time in a SUP race. This committed event ended with a human chain inscribing the words “ocean respect” on the beach, thanks to the many participants.
