A magnificent stage of the GR 20
The famous GR 20 is the long-distance hiking trail crossing the Corsican massif. An incredible journey to experience from north to south, within the Natural Park of Corsica.
From Camping Via Romana, you can take the twelfth stage of the GR 20 from north to south, from Prati to Usciolu stage 12 of the GR20 from north to south. It corresponds to the fifth stage if you take the path from south to north. 10,5 kilometers of incredible ridgeline landscapes await you. This hike of almost 6 hours is quite technical and exposed. You will climb to the highest point, Punta Cappella, at 2 meters above sea level. You will walk between the east and west sides of the ridge, on rolling parts as well as on rock faces. The greatest vigilance will then be required. Finally, the Laparo pass will have no more secrets for you! Your steps will also take you on a path through a beautiful beech forest. An opportunity to discover the diversity of Corsican landscapes.
In Corsica, distances are sometimes misleading
Don't be fooled by the distance of a hike. In the mountains and more particularly in Corsica, a stage of a few kilometers can take 5 to 6 hours. The elevation and the difficulty of the terrain are to be taken into account in priority.
Find all the information and routes on the websiteCorsica Orientale Tourist Office.
During your stay, you can also take old mule tracks. They have been rehabilitated for a few years.
- The Path of the Ancients, U Chjassu di i Vecchji
This old path, in the shade of a forest of cork oaks, will lead you to the perched village of Prunelli di Fium'orbu and its superb panorama. A stroll through the alleys of the village will allow you to admire the riches of its heritage. Take a detour to the small private Mnemosina museum. It traces the history of Fium'Orbu through the ages.
- The Bughja waterfall, San Gavinu di Fiumorbu
Take this authentic path which crosses a chestnut grove. After crossing the Bughja stream, a climb is necessary to reach a shepherd's shelter. You will have to follow the path bordered by a low wall which will take you after a short descent to the bottom of the valley. You will arrive at the foot of a vertiginous waterfall 100 meters high. An enchanting place for a refreshing break!
- Urbino pond, Ghisonaccia
Covering an area of 750 hectares, the pond is part of the Pinia forest. A walk along the edge of this pond will allow you to discover many species of birds. The kingfisher, the osprey, the gray heron, the gull, the laughing gull, the cormorants or even the egrets... The greediest will not fail to take a break to taste its oysters, which make the reputation of the pond of 'Urbino.
