A La Faute-sur-Mer, you will not lack ideas for outings, discoveries, excursions and sports. You can try your hand at golf, sand-yachting or even kitesurfing while others will prefer to stroll in the market and enjoy walks by the sea. The fine sandy beaches along the coast are a real invitation to relaxation or the practice of water sports (sailing, sand yachting, sea trips, fishing, kitesurfing, towed buoy, etc.). Hiking on the beach and fishing on foot are also essential for you who like to take advantage of the softness of the places and to look for shells in family. If you are looking for a little freshness, know that more than 200 hectares of forests of holm oaks and pines extend by the Pointe d'Arçay State Biological Reserve. Take the time to walk around and taste the local seafood. Mussels, oysters and clams are cultivated on site; and many restaurants offer regional specialties of shellfish, fish and mogettes accompanied by Mareuil wine. This local wine, which takes its name from the main town of this territory, is particularly famous in Vendée and in the West of France. A discovery not to be missed on this part of the coast, partly covered with vines. This region, the Pays Mareuillais, belongs to the Vendée Fiefs. It is one of the 5 AOC territories. 

A well-equipped seaside resort for sports enthusiasts

A pétanque club, a tennis club, a nautical club, a swimming school, a kitesurfing school, a yoga club and many other activities will be offered to you in the town. You like it golf ? The one in Faute sur Mer is located near the port, the forest and the beaches. It offers 9 par 36 holes on its peninsula (3 par 3, 3 par 4, 3 par 5). A 6-hole pitch and putt, a driving range and a putting green complete the equipment. You will be welcomed at the golf house, facing the port (terraces, bar, restaurant, proshop) in an oceanic, golf and friendly atmosphere. This clubhouse offers a unique setting on the coast of fouls, very bright spaces, a very welcoming little lounge and a warm corner around the fire. If you are not equipped, you can rent the necessary on site, and reserve for a 6-hole training course to discover golf or to perfect the game.  

If you are with young people, you can take them to the peninsula park or to the skatepark, which is one of the largest in France. The little ones will love the 3.000 m play area2 in a shaded area. It is accessible for children from 2 to 12 years old, and offers quality equipment: zip lines, swings, sand games, slide (6m high), ropes course, rope pyramid. The park is lined with shaded picnic tables, chosen to be adapted for people with reduced mobility. The skatepark, meanwhile, has a variety of modules designed for multiple practice suitable for all levels: a bowl for experienced and professional ramp-riders, an ideal ramp for beginners, 3 quarter zones and all the modules essential to the street practice. Young children, adolescents and board sports professionals have adopted this new equipment. In addition, thanks to this equipment, the town has been labeled " Playground 2024 »And is a candidate to become a Preparation Center for the 2024 Olympic Games!

Hikers and nature lovers will be delighted!

The hiking and cycling circuits occupy the space in the town of La Faute-sur-Mer. The two main walking routes are "Le Littoral Fautais" and "The Pointe d'Arçay". The first will take you for 13 kilometers, to discover the sandy peninsula in constant morphological evolution and bordered on one side by the river Lay and on the other, by the ocean for more than 10 km. A unique opportunity to observe the local flora and fauna. The tip of Arçay is a site of 1.035 hectares, on land and at sea, protected since 1951. Several environments rub shoulders there and are home to preserved biodiversity. The Pointe d'Arçay and the Aiguillon bay nature reserve form a set of habitats of international importance for migratory birds. These two sites are linked to many other natural coastal sites of great ecological interest on the scale of the Poitevin marsh and the Charentais sluices. 

For cycling enthusiasts, the “La Presqu'île Loop” cycle loop is family-friendly and accessible even with little ones. This cycle path allows you to discover the peninsula of Faute-sur-Mer: Le Lay, the Casse de la belle Henriette, the Pointe d'Arçay as well as the very beautiful sandy beaches. You will evolve along the coast to reach and discover the Casse de la Belle Henriette. You will thus observe a rich fauna and flora typical of this lagoon. You will then pass on the side of the Lay, which you will follow for nearly 7 km. Between forest and ocean, you will be captivated by the richness of biodiversity. Take the time to stop at the Rade d'Amour, former oyster farm concession valued by the Conservatoire du Littoral and the Municipality. It was returned to walkers "in love" and to nature, so that they can fully benefit from this patchwork of saltwater environments populated by birds such as waders, raptors, or even laridae.

The first offers a circuit around La Tranche-sur-Mer, also called the Vendée “little California”, and offers you one of the most beautiful panoramas of Vendée landscapes between dunes, beaches and marshes. The second proposes a section of approximately 46 kilometers between Tranche-Sur-Mer and Marans. You will cycle through the heart of a large expanse of marshes and crops punctuated with farms and huts until you reach Marans, a pleasant river town bordered by the Sèvre Niortaise. Take the time to stop at the marina, visit the historic center and the futuristic bell tower church of this city alive to the rhythm of the water.

Focus on the Cassis de la Belle-Henriette National Nature Reserve

The Belle Henriette National Nature Reserve is a rich and rare natural space, a precious witness to the natural mechanisms of formation and evolution of sandy coasts. Guided tours are possible in July and August, by booking at the Tourist Offices of the Destination Sud Vendée Littoral. An integral part of the Marais Poitevin natural ensemble, the Casse de la Belle Henriette nature reserve was created on August 31, 2011, following a procedure implemented by the ministry responsible for the protection of the environment. The lagoon presents, by its micro-reliefs, its sandy-muddy soils, its variable salinity and its water regime, all this on a relatively small surface, a great diversity of environments (brackish, semi-brackish, sandy, clayey, hygrophilous , mesophiles, xerophiles…). More than 360 plant species have been listed on the Belle Henriette site!

La Rochelle and Île de Ré, the two great local ladies
