Surfing in Saint-Jean-de-Monts
For surfers, the Vendée has a multitude of surf spots. You will find all types of waves for all tastes. Beachbreaks break over sandbanks. Reefs crash over rocks. Pointbreaks sweep along a bay. The fallback spots allow you to surf in more accessible waves during big swells and big storms Many places along the coast will offer you beautiful surf spots, starting with the beach of Saint-Jean-de- Mounts. The whole beach is surfable. Its main peak is near the Estacade, where crossing the bar is easy and quick.
For a sporting day with family, solo or with friends, many activities are available: paddle, sailing, sand yachting, kitesurfing, surfing... These water sports are accessible to everyone, beginners or experienced, including children. Located between the island of Noirmoutier and the beach of Fromentine, the sailing school's navigation area is calm and secure. From the age of 6, you can learn about the pleasure of sliding and thrills with the practice of surfing with professionals.
The nautical base
A few minutes from the beach of St-Jean-de-Monts and its nautical base, the Camping The Bois Verdon will be the ideal place to initiate yourself or to practice your favorite activity. The nautical base offers lessons and courses from 12 years old. You will also find windsurf boards for hire. Ideally located between the island of Noirmoutier and the beach of Fromentine, the sailing school's navigation area is calm and secure.
Good for body and soul
Windsurfing is a very complete sport. You work almost all the muscles of the body including the abdominals, the glutes, the arms and the pectorals, the dorsals and the thighs. An ideal site for trail running
Trail enthusiasts necessarily know the resort of Saint-Jean-de-Monts. It is indeed the first trail station on the French coast. The region's soil, which is particularly soft and comfortable for the practice of this sport, and the ideal weather conditions, allow it to be practiced all year round.
Beginners wishing to learn or confirmed practitioners, you will benefit from the 4 trail workshops on Saint-Jean-de-Monts and its 12 hiking trails. They include no less than 200 cumulative kilometres. The reception bases offer you a wide range of adapted equipment and services, via the Station de Trail passport.
The workshops allow neophytes to learn gently and seasoned runners to train.
- Loop A
The loop trail in the heart of the pine forest, is a small loop of about 3 kilometers. It presents many changes of rhythm.
- Loop B
This short climb offers 58 meters to practice going up and down a steep slope.
- Loop C
This 146 meter long climb allows you to practice going uphill and downhill.
The VMA loop is ideal for measuring physical capacity.

A cycling destination
The Vendée is unquestionably the cycling destination for your holidays. The network of cycle paths offers 1 cumulative kilometres. Beginners, amateurs or experienced practitioners, you will enjoy the great diversity of landscapes in the Vendée.
Don't miss the not-to-be-missed Vélodyssée. This route runs along the Atlantic Coast from north to south, notably passing through the Vendée. Take the 18 kilometers of the Vélodyssée between La Barre-de-Monts and La Fromentine/Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. Through the national forest, you will travel under the pines on its paths before reaching the dunes and finally the large beach of Saint-Jean-de-Monts along the ocean You will pass through the old fishing village of Saint- Hilaire-de-Riez before reaching the Vendée Corniche and its famous rocks at Sion-sur-l'Océan. A unique panorama not to be missed!
Country of Saint-Jean-de-Monts
The Pays de Saint-Jean-de-Monts alone has more than 170 kilometers of cycle paths in the heart of the marshes, in the middle of the forest, in the city center or by the sea. More than half of the network is on site clean, in other words on lanes dedicated to bicycles. You drive in complete safety. These routes are therefore ideal for family outings with children. Several circuits and loops exist in Saint-Jean-de-Monts and in the neighboring towns.
