Lourdes, mythical city and world-famous sanctuary

Lourdes is of timeless beauty. Each year, nearly six million visitors from more than 140 countries come to share stories and hopes. It is the most visited city in France after Paris.

The Massabielle cave

In 1858, at the Massabielle cave, the Virgin Mary would have appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous. Today, shrines receive millions of visitors of all nationalities and faiths. This “Universal” site is accessible 24 hours a day. It welcomes the "whole world" throughout the year.

The fortified castle

The visit of Chateau fort is also a must. Classified as a historical monument, it is a major witness to the history of Lourdes from the XNUMXthe in the nineteenthe centuries. Since 1921, it has housed the Pyrenean Museum. Labeled Museum of France, it presents the most important collection on the history of the French and Spanish Pyrenees. On the castle terraces, the botanical garden is absolutely superb.

The Pic du Jer

The climb to the Pic du Jer by funicular is a must. It makes it easy to reach the summit at 1 meters above sea level. Easily recognizable by its cross placed at the top, the Pic du Jer overlooks the city of Lourdes. It offers an exceptional panorama of the Pyrenees chain. Lourdes Lake

3 kilometers from the city center in the direction of Pau, the glacial lake of Lourdes is a wonderful place for relaxation and leisure.

Around the lake

The tour of Lake Lourdes is a route known to local hikers, joggers and mountain bikers. Over a distance of about 6 kilometers, you will discover the lake from different angles. You also enjoy the view of the Pyrenean chain.

Walks around

To go further, take the Henri IV road and gain height by heading towards the Bois de Mourle. During a break at the Croix du Cerf you will then contemplate the magnificent panorama available to you. Continuing a little further you will come to the Peyre Dusets dolmen… The little ones will have the opportunity to have fun in the playground dedicated to them. Take the opportunity to go to the other side of the lake and observe the peat bog of Lake Lourdes (Natura 2000 classified site). 

Catering and leisure

To eat or refresh yourself, several establishments are at your disposal. An area has also been set up for picnics. From there, paddle, kayak or canoe outings will be offered.


Fishermen will also be privileged, whether to fish from the shore or from a boat. The Lac de Lourdes is classified in the second category and is very popular with fishermen. The species present are carp, roach, tench, pike, pike perch, perch and even black bass. A night carp fishing course is accessible on the golf side. The Pyrenees National Park

  • The Gave de Pau invites you to sport descents in rafting, hydrospeed or kayak, the smallest torrents offer you the possibility of practicing canyoning.
  • The Hautacam Leisure Park with its summer activities (Mountain Luge, Dévalkart, Sherpa, electro-fun vehicles ..) and winter (cross-country and downhill skiing, Mountain Luge) promises you wonderful days with your family.
