Lake Sainte-Croix: A BI-JOU!
The Lake of Sainte Croix and the crystal clear water of the Gorges will inevitably attract you: pedalos, sailing, electric or non-electric boat trips, canoeing, kayaking, rafting.
In Haute Provence, the construction of the dam on the course of the Verdon allowed its birth in 1973. It is in a setting with the backdrop of the Valensole plateau and the Verdon gorges, in the scents of lavender, thyme and of rosemary, that this expanse of clear and pure water with turquoise shades, of jealously protected quality will offer you a privileged space for swimming, the boat (electric only), the pedal boat or the canoe-kayak, the sail but also the hiking and the pleasures of discovering the Provencal villages of Sainte-Croix or Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. If you want to put your boat in the water, head for the beaches of Bauduen, Sainte-Croix or Les Salles. The access to the water is quite practical, and you have all the space you need to maneuver with your trailer. Other places very easy to access for the practice of your sport, the beaches located near the Pont du Galetas, at the end of the lake, at the exit of the Gorges du Verdon. For those who wish to rent a windsurfing board or a sailboat, you can get information on site from the nautical centers, which also provide lessons and organize various courses. You will find boards there but also dinghies, catamarans and other small sailboats. The villages with direct access to Lake Sainte-Croix are Bauduen, Les Salles sur Verdon and of course Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon. But other villages are very close, whether in the Var or in the Alpes de Haute Provence.

Focus on the Plein Voir hike
This hike will make you discover a breathtaking view of the crests of Montdenier, the Mourre de Chanier and the summit of Chiran to the north and to the south: the lake of Sainte Croix, the Verdon gorges and the Valensole plateau. The climb is done in the shade of a dense oak grove that clears up near the summit, where the panoramic view is incredible. Thereafter, the pines accompany you throughout the descent to the Saint Maurin nature reserve and its waterfalls. You will set off for a loop of 14.3 km and 1215 m of vertical drop, on the heights of the peaks of Plein Voir. The route starts with a path going up at the foot of beautiful cliffs, from where a view of the lake of Sainte Croix quite quickly. It rises gradually on the crest of the Ourbes by the GR4 until reaching the Col de l'Ane. From there, it will be necessary to cover another 1 km before reaching the Plein Voir pass and starting the route on the ridges of the same name, with a bird's eye view of the Verdon canyon. The return downhill takes the same route over 1 km as the outward journey and plunges to Plein voir in a forest of Aleppo pines and Black pines, passes in front of a cliff encrusted with plants, called (Vertical Garden) reaches a dry stream (petrified basins) and goes out into a clearing at the foot of immense ocher cliffs. The last part of the route passes mainly on a balcony path at the foot of high cliffs overlooking the Gorges du Verdon and Lake Sainte Croix.

While the greatest number bask in the waters of the lake on surfbikes, some tend more for fishing and the joys of catching carp, pike or perch. The lake has many coves and natural beaches to put down your rod and let yourself go to the calm and concentrated experience of fishing. The banks are accessible and clear, often bordered by pines, oaks, small box trees and other junipers.
At the foot of the first Alpine foothills, fishing spots can just as easily be docked by canoe. Fishing is an authentic way to discover the lake and its region. Indeed, the many fishing guides, passionate about this part of the Verdon, will allow you to discover the region as you have never seen it before.
